Invisalign treatment uses custom-made clear aligners to gradually move your teeth. Each set of aligners is shaped slightly differently from the last, applying gentle, controlled pressure that guides your teeth toward their planned positions. You'll switch to a new set every week or two and wear your aligners 20 to 22 hours a day.
Because the aligners are clear and fit snugly over your teeth, most people won't notice you're wearing them. That's why patients often call them invisible braces.

What's his background? Dr. An studied biology at the University of Maryland, earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at NYU College of Dentistry, and completed a general practice residency at Jersey City Medical Center.
What areas of dentistry does he focus on? Beyond general and family dentistry, Dr. An has a particular passion for implant dentistry and facial aesthetics. He completed the RSDM/AAID MaxiCourse in Implant Dentistry and has trained in facial injectables, which gives him an eye for how your smile fits with the rest of your face.
Why does that matter for Invisalign? Straightening teeth is about more than lining them up. Dr. An plans your treatment with your whole smile in mind, and because he's also your family dentist, he keeps watch over your teeth and gums at every visit.
What does he do outside the office? In 2007, he founded the SOMA Dental Mission of New York, a nonprofit that delivers dental care through mission trips. At home, he spends time with his wife and daughter and plays piano, guitar, drums, and cello.
For mild to moderate crowding, spacing, and bite problems, as well as many more complex cases, Invisalign is an effective alternative to braces, as long as the aligners are worn as directed. Some complex cases are better treated with braces, and Dr. An will tell you if that applies to you.
Most patients feel mild pressure for a day or two after switching to a new set of aligners. That's a sign your teeth are moving. There are no wires or brackets to irritate your mouth.
Take your aligners out to eat, then brush your teeth before putting them back in. Plain water is fine with aligners in; remove them for any other drink.
Your teeth may not move as planned, and treatment can take longer. Aim for 20 to 22 hours a day, and only remove them to eat, drink something other than water, and clean your teeth.
Many dental plans with orthodontic benefits cover part of the Invisalign treatment. Coverage varies, and some plans only cover orthodontics for children. We'll check your benefits for you.
Rinse them, then gently brush them with a soft toothbrush in lukewarm water without toothpaste, which can scratch them. Avoid hot water, which can warp them, and keep them in their case whenever they're not in your mouth.
Yes. Many patients whiten their teeth once treatment is finished for a straighter and brighter smile. Ask us about teeth whitening at your final visit.
Yes. Wearing a retainer as directed keeps your teeth from shifting back and protects your results.
