6 Resolutions for a Better Smile

Many of our patients have made it one of their New Year’s resolutions to improve their smiles, and the great thing about that is that there are plenty of ways to do just that. Here are six resolutions to keep for a more beautiful, healthy smile.

1. Eat Tooth-Friendly Foods

Not all diet food has to be bland! There are many healthy foods for stronger teeth that are delicious too, including nuts, apples, carrots, berries, yogurt, and cheese. Make it a point to cut out candy, soda, and dried fruit (all of which are harmful for your teeth) and replace them with healthier alternatives.

2. Brush and Floss Daily

The best way to avoid painful and pricy dental procedures in the future is by diligently brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day. Try different flavors of toothpaste and different types of toothbrushes to keep your dental routine more interesting!

3. Cut Back on The Caffeine and Alcohol

Coffee, tea, and alcohol are acidic and can promote bacteria growth and staining on and between your teeth. While you may already be considering cutting back on caffeine and alcohol for different reasons, a good reason to stick to that resolution is the benefit that it would have for your oral health.

4. Stop Smoking

Smoking suppresses your immunity, which can cause bacteria and germs to replicate at a faster rate and inflict more damage in a shorter amount of time. Plaque and bacteria is one of the primary causes of gum disease, which can lead to tooth decay and tooth loss if left untreated.

5. Drink More Water

Water washes bacteria off your teeth and has a neutral pH level, so it won’t cause any harm to your enamel. Skip the sugary sodas and opt for more water this year!

6. Stay Up-To-Date on Dental Appointments

All it takes is two visits a year to keep your smile healthy and beautiful. If you haven’t seen a dentist in a while, make it a priority to see one this year. Your teeth will thank you for it!
