Halloween is just around the corner, and you’re probably already thinking about what you want to be this year or what your kids want to dress up as.
There are so many great ways to create an authentic costume. But there’s nothing that makes an ensemble pop like fake teeth. Fake teeth are part of so many great looks (what would a vampire get-up be without the fangs?). No matter what the character is, fake teeth can really make or break a costume.
But there are some important things to keep in mind if you’re wearing fake teeth, because if you don’t pay proper attention, you can end up damaging your real teeth.
Make sure the fake teeth you put in your mouth are clean to minimize infections. This can mean washing them with hot soapy water or soaking them in a dentures cleaning solution, like Efferdent, overnight.
Brush and Floss
Make sure to brush and floss before putting any fake teeth inside your mouth. And definitely don’t eat with the teeth inside your mouth, because that would put a heavy strain on your real teeth. Remember to brush and floss when you get home at the end of the night, just like you normally would. This is especially important because of all the candy people consume on Halloween.
Limit how much time you wear your fake teeth so you don’t put unnecessary pressure on your real teeth. Don’t keep them in your mouth for more than a few hours, and make sure to give yourself a rest if your mouth starts to ache.
Watch Out for Veneers
If you wear veneers or have had a similar dental procedure, stay away from fake teeth. They could damage your veneers and cost you hundreds of dollars in additional dental care—definitely not worth it for one night’s use!
We know Halloween is a time to go all out with your costume, and if you follow these tips, it’s possible to do that without putting your teeth at risk.
